Andy Reid Breaks Silence On Travis Kelce’s Future With The Chiefs

At the NFL Combine, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid took a moment to address the future of his team following their Super Bowl LIX loss. With an opportunity to make history by securing a third straight title, Kansas City fell short, but Reid made it clear there are no excuses.
Now, the team is taking much-needed time off, resting, and recovering before they start preparing for the 2025 season. But while the Chiefs have plenty of decisions to make in the offseason, one question looms larger than the rest—what’s next for Travis Kelce?
Kelce, a future Hall of Famer, has not publicly committed to returning for another season, and Reid didn’t provide any definitive answers either. But one thing is certain: the Chiefs want him back.

Andy Reid confirmed that he had spoken with Kelce about his future but didn’t share many details about their discussion. “We talked after the game,” Reid said. “He’s taking some time right now, and we’ll see where it goes.”

While Kelce has yet to make a firm statement about his plans, there’s been no indication that he is leaning toward retirement. Most reports suggest that the star tight end is still fully invested in football, which is why his silence might actually be a good thing for Chiefs fans.
At 34, Kelce is at a point where his production may not be as dominant as it once was, but his leadership and experience remain invaluable. If he does return, his presence in the locker room could be crucial as the Chiefs introduce new talent into their system.

For now, the Chiefs are playing the long game. The organization isn’t pressing Kelce for a decision, giving him the space to make the right call without emotions from the Super Bowl loss clouding his judgment. Meanwhile, Reid and

quarterback Patrick Mahomes will undoubtedly continue to stay in touch with Kelce, ensuring he knows just how vital he remains to the team

In the meantime, Kansas City’s front office is focused on retaining key pieces of their roster, such as offensive lineman Trey Smith. But one thing is clear—if Kelce decides to run it back, the Chiefs will welcome him with open arms.
Reid understands his players, and he’s handling this situation with patience. And as long as Kelce hasn’t announced his retirement, the door remains wide open for his return in 2025.
