San Francisco 49ers stars were made to eat their words on Sunday night after they were heard mocking Patrick Mahomes during their Super Bowl clash with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mahomes inspired Kansas City to a second straight Super Bowl triumph in Las Vegas, with the Chiefs quarterback throwing the game-winning touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman Jnr in the final three seconds of a dramatic overtime period.
The victory cements his status as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, having now claimed three championship rings at the tender age of 28.
And should he decide to watch Inside the NFL’s mic’d up footage from the game, Sunday’s latest Super Bowl win will be even sweeter for Mahomes.

Mahomes went on to throw the championship-winning touchdown pass late in overtime
Before his heroics in overtime, 49ers safety Tashaun Gipson Snr could be heard branding the Chiefs superstar a ‘regular f****ng quarterback’ in statement which certainly didn’t age well.
After teammate Ji’Ayir Brown intercepted a Mahomes pass in the third quarter, Gipson said to his fellow safety and cornerback Isaiah Oliver: ‘That is just a regular f****ng quarterback bro. Ain’t nothing different, [other teams] just ain’t been catching that s**t.
‘He’s regular bro, and we gon’ make his a** look regular.’
Unfortunately for Gipson and the Niners, Mahomes eventually came up clutch with the crucial pass to Hardman Jnr in overtime, which ended their hopes of a first Super Bowl win for almost 30 years.
The Chiefs, who have now won three of the last five Super Bowls, are the first team to retain the Vince Lombardi Trophy since the New England Patriots in 2005.
Mahomes is already eyeing a three-peat in 2024, outlining his plans for next season before the dust had barely settled on their latest success.
‘It’s legendary — no one’s ever done it,’ he said of his mindset to go after the three-peat.
The Chiefs superstar is already shifting his focus to next season after winning his third ring
‘No one’s ever done it, and we knew it’s legendary to win back-to-back. I think eight other teams have done it. We had heard it all week.
‘We had talked to the guys about it, and we felt like we had the best opportunity that we had ever had to go out there and do that.
‘We’ve got to continue to play our best football. We’ll celebrate these next few weeks, and then we’ll get right back at it.’
