Why Travis Kelce Skipped the 2024 Met Gala

Taylor Swift, but the night has come and gone without a single sighting of the couple.

While Kelce has yet to comment on his absence from fashion’s biggest night, it’s probable that the NFL star may have decided to eschew the event without Swift’s attendance. The singer, who also missed out on the event, is currently in the throes of preparation for the European leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour. Staring on Thursday, May 9, Swift will play four consecutive shows at Paris’s La Défense Arena. With the volume of performances as well as rehearsals and travel time, it’s likely that Swift simply couldn’t fit the Met Gala into her busy schedule—leading Kelce to also skip the occasion.

If he had attended, tonight would have marked the Kansas City Chief tight end’s first time ever at the Met Gala, as well as the couple’s first time walking a red carpet together.

Still, fans aren’t without their fair share of Kelce and Swift sightings. The two have supported each other on the sidelines of their own respective events, with Swift cheering Kelce on during the Super Bowl and Kelce dancing in the VIP tent during the Eras Tour. Most recently, they brought their romance to Coachella, where they were joined by several of Swift’s A-lister friends like Jack Antonoff and and Ice Spice.

During a pre–Super Bowl press conference, Kelce opened up about celebrating his wins off the field with his close loved ones, including Swift. “It’s another memory in the journey that we get to cherish, man,” he said. “I’m fortunate that I got all the support I need off the field. It gives me a reason to play that much harder.”
