Two Hollywood celebrities just voiced their opposite views on the best time to have children.

Both “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara and “Hitch” actress Eva Mendes discussed their thoughts on motherhood as part of the People Magazine’s “Beautiful” issue. Vergara said having kids later in life wouldn’t be “fair,” while Mendes insisted it was “asinine” to suggest she should have had kids in her twenties.

Vergara, 51, recently made headlines when she divorced her husband of seven years, fellow celebrity Joe Manganiello. The “Modern Family” star revealed that him wanting kids was one of the biggest reasons the marriage fell apart.

The actress had a son when she was 19, and she said that having more kids now wouldn’t work for her.

“There’s things in life that might sound like good ideas, but they’re not,” she told the outlet of having another child over 50. “I was a mother already. I know what it means to be a good mother or to try to be the best mother that you can, and that takes a lot of sacrifices, takes a lot of energy.”

“Nowadays, thanks to science, women can actually have babies older,” she added. “Before, nature for some reason tells your body at 50 you are in menopause, it’s time for you to be done with that. There is a reason why nature is doing that.”

Vergara went on to say that while she can “totally respect where anyone wants to be a mom after 50,” that was not what she wanted.

“I didn’t think because of my career, the way I live my life, the way my marriage was, that it was fair to bring a kid to this world, and I’m not going to be able to give 100 percent,” she told People.
