US Open seedings announced with Coco Gauff, Taylor Fritz and Novak Djokovic’s rankings confirmed
The 2024 US Open men’s singles seeds and women’s singles seeds have now been announced, with Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz among those learning their fate.
Djokovic is world number two and heads into the US Open as the defending champion in the men’s singles.
Gauff meanwhile is the women’s singles defending champion, but she has dropped to third in the WTA rankings.
Aryna Sabalenka moves up to second after her Cincinnati Open win, with Gauff wanting to work on her consistency.
The fourth and final major of the year takes place at Flushing Meadows in Queens, New York, with qualification already underway
Where are Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz seeded for the US Open?
The seeded players must wait their turn for the main draw, but the men and women at least now know where they stand ahead of the US Open.
As per tennis journalist Jose Morgado, Jannik Sinner is the top men’s seed, with Djokovic number two, Carlos Alcaraz in three and Alexander Zverev fourth.
Daniil Medvedev is the fifth seed, with Andrey Rublev in six, Hubert Hurkacz in seventh and Casper Ruud number eight.
American hopefuls Fritz, Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul are seeded 12th, 13th and 14th respectively.
In the women’s singles, Iga Swiatek is the number one seed at the US Open, with Sabalenka in second and Gauff in third.
Elena Rybakina is the fourth seed, followed by Jasmine Paolini in fifth, Jessica Pegula in sixth, Qinwen Zheng in seventh and Barbora Krejcikova at number eight.
US hopefuls Danielle Collins, Emma Navarro and Madison Keys are the 11th, 13th and 14th seeds respectively.
Who will win the 2024 US Open?
Both Gauff and Djokovic will be keen to defend their US Open titles, having beaten Sabalenka and Medvedev respectively last time out.
The losing finalists will also be eager to enact revenge, having come so close to glory at Flushing Meadows.
Gauff hasn’t exactly been able to replicate her superb form this time around, while Djokovic will be in high spirits after his Olympic gold.
But there could be a home winner in the men’s singles, with the likes of Fritz, Shelton and Paul all aiming to use the crowd to their advantage and upset the status quo.
As for the women’s, world number one Swiatek could be the player to beat yet again, but Sabalenka has found form at the right time with her win in Cincinnati.
