Chiefs GM Makes Excuse For Travis Kelce’s Poor Super Bowl Performance

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach had an awful lot to say about Travis Kelce while at the NFL Combine this Tuesday.

For starters, Veach addressed Kelce’s future in the NFL. There were rumblings that he could retire after the team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59. However, the well-respected general manager revealed that he expects to have the All-Pro tight end back in the mix for the 2025 season.

“I still think he has that fire and desire to play,” Veach said. “How we left at the end of the season is that he was fired up. I think we left it as he’d be back and were excited to get him back and get him going.”

Veach then made a rather interesting comment about Kelce’s performance in the Super Bowl. He said the future Hall of Famer was “battling with a pretty big illness” before the big game.

Kelce had a lackluster performance in the Super Bowl, hauling in four passes for 39 yards. Fans noticed that his energy just didn’t seem right from the opening snap.

That being said, Veach is getting blasted on social media for making excuses about Kelce’s performance

“Gotta love the excuses that come out a few weeks later…,” one fan commented.

“Washed is an illness these days? Who knew,” another fan said.

“Jalen Carter was battling an illness all week,” an Eagles fan pointed out. “Landon Dickerson playing on one leg. Jurgens bad back. BG one-armed. Nolan played the whole second half on one arm as well. No. Excuses.”

Kelce has not said anything yet in regards to his Super Bowl performance. He simply stated that he was taking time to think about his future.

“I know everybody wants to know whether I am playing next year and right now I am just kicking everything down the road. I am kicking every can I can down the road,” Kelce said. “I am not making any crazy decisions, but right now the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches understanding there’s a lot that goes into this thing. I’ve been fortunate over the past five, six years, I’ve played more football than anybody.”

Kelce will eventually announce his plans for the 2025 season. When he does, we doubt he’ll address his “Super Bowl illness.”
