Chiefs vs 49ers: Who has the most records and why is it Taylor Swift?

The Kansas City Chiefs will be taking on the San Francisco 49ers this weekend in American football’s ultimate clash – Super Bowl LVIII.

But Swifties around the world are more concerned about whether Taylor Swift will make it in time to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce, the Chiefs’ tight end.

Taylor is performing her Eras Tour at the Tokyo Dome, in Japan, from 7 to 10 February, leaving fans worried she won’t have time to get to Las Vegas for the game at Allegiant Stadium the day after.

And even the Japanese Embassy has weighed in, with a representative saying: “Despite the 12-hour flight and 17-hour time difference, the Embassy can confidently Speak Now to say that if she departs Tokyo in the evening after her concert, she should comfortably arrive in Las Vegas before the Super Bowl begins.”

Despite all the hype around Taylor and Travis, the 49ers are the slight favourites to win, but who wins when it comes to Guinness World Records titles?

The 49ers just edge out the Chiefs on this too, with 28 to 26 active record titles, respectively.

But it’s Taylor who is the real star of this show with more than the two teams combined – a whopping 70 Guinness World Records titles… at least, at the time of writing.

You may think it’s a bit weird for us to say that, but Taylor is such a prolific record breaker it’s possible she’s already added another to her collection by the time you’ve finished reading this sentence.

We’ve done a bit of a deep dive ahead of the game, so let’s take a closer look at some of these records, but not all of them because you’d still be reading after kickoff…

• Highest aggregate score in a Super Bowl – In 1995 when 49ers beat the San Diego Chargers 49-26

• Highest Super Bowl team score and largest margin of victory in a Super Bowl game – In 1990, the highest team score and record margin victory was set when the 49ers beat the Denver Broncos 55-10

• Most field goals by an individual in a Super Bowl game (AMF) – 4, shared by Ray Wersching (49ers) and Don Chandler (Green Bay Packers)

• Most touchdowns in a Super Bowl game (team) – 8

• Most field goals by an individual in an NFL season – 44 by David Akers during 2011 season

• Most points scored in a single NFL postseason match by an individual – 30 by Ricky Watters

• Most consecutive NFL games scoring a touchdown – 17, shared by Christian McCaffrey (49ers) and Lenny Moore (Baltimore Colts)

• Highest punting average by an individual in a Super Bowl career – 46.5 yards by Jerrel Wilson

• Fastest NFL quarterback to reach 20,000 career passing yards – 67 games by Patrick Mahomes

• Fastest time to throw 100 NFL touchdown passes – 40 games by Patrick Mahomes
