Elton John recalls feeling ‘paranoid’ after doing ‘mountains of cocaine’ with John Lennon in new doc

Elton John reflects in his new documentary on a drug binge with John Lennon that caused him to panic.

The “Rocket Man” singer, 77, revealed in “Elton John: Never Too Late,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival Friday, that he and the late Beatles member once had “mountains of coke coming out of [their] noses” while in a New York City hotel room at 2 a.m., according to People.

John admitted that he was “being paranoid” at the time and even asked, “Is that the police?” when he heard a knock at the door.

“It took me about five minutes to walk across to the peephole, and I saw it was Andy Warhol,” he added.

When John informed Lennon that it was Warhol — and not the cops — the “Imagine” singer allegedly wanted to still shoo away the visual artist, prompting the latter to continue ringing the bell.

Per John, they didn’t want to let Warhol in the room because he carried his Polaroid camera “everywhere,” and they wanted their drug use to not be documented.

Lennon, who was assassinated in December 1980, reportedly then said, “Like, no thanks. That was the fun part of cocaine.”

Despite that humorous anecdote, John previously said that his “biggest regret” was taking drugs.

“My biggest regret is taking drugs, but having said that, all the pain and all the bad behavior and all the self-hatred, I went through to get to where I’m at now,” the “I’m Still Standing” singer told “Today” in 2019.

John was able to overcome his addiction and celebrated 30 years of sobriety in July 2020.

“I’m truly a blessed man. If I hadn’t finally taken the big step of asking for help 30 years ago, I’d be dead,” the “Hold Me Closer” singer admitted in a post on Instagram at the time.
