A dad has clapped back at football fans who have criticized Taylor Swift for being too distracting while supporting NFL boyfriend Travis Kelce in a viral online rant.

Robert People, a retired military journalist from Florida, took to TikTok to fire off at sport enthusiasts who have branded the 34-year-old singer a ‘distraction’ to her lover.

The Cruel Summer hitmaker has been engulfed in a whirlwind romance with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, also 34, since September and although the two lovebirds are madly in love and having a ton of ‘fun,’ NFL fans have held onto bad blood with Taylor and are blaming the singer for taking Travis’s focus off the game.

However, Robert has had enough of the criticism against Taylor and has called for other football fans to consider what their ‘daughters’ would think by hearing them bash the singer – adding that critics are teaching young women to ‘shrink themselves.’

In a viral video, which has so far amassed more than 1.4 million views, Robert shared his opinion on football fanatics who criticized Taylor.

‘Those of you people out there, especially grown men, expressing all this nasty, ridiculous hate for Taylor Swift just for existing and supporting her boyfriend in the NFL, keep in mind, Taylor Swift’s not gonna see or hear any of that,’ he said at the beginning of the clip.

‘But you know who will? Your daughters.’

He explained that by spreading ‘juvenile hate,’ fans were ‘encouraging’ their daughters to ‘shrink themselves.’

‘Because if they do anything more than that, if they just decide to be themselves, they’re gonna get a whole lot of hate from not only the world but from people just like you: their own parents,’ he continued.

‘We need to do better, straight up.’

Robert told Today that he has a 16-year-old daughter who watches football with him and ‘pays attention’ to what he does.

He noted that people shouldn’t be treating the popstar so poorly.

‘It’s wrong to treat anyone this way. If you don’t know much about her, then don’t say anything,’ he said.

‘She’s a human being and people reduce her humanity,’ he told the outlet before adding that he likes that his daughter has a ‘powerful and successful’ role model like Taylor.

Many people have criticized Taylor and Travis’s relationship, including Larry David, 76, who revealed his dislike for the couple.

He announced that he ‘doesn’t give a s**t’ about Taylor and Travis – and banned Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb from asking him about them during his recent Today show interview last week.

The comedian made an appearance on the morning show on Thursday, and he was unamused when the hosts brought up the power couple during their chat.

During his sit-down, Larry started off by telling Savannah, 52, and Hoda, 59, that he was open to discussing ‘anything they wanted to talk about.’

However, that didn’t include Taylor and Travis.

While he may not be a fan of all the talk surrounding their romance, Larry is a longtime football fan, and even previously posed with Travis at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March 2023.

It’s especially been on the forefront of everyone’s minds following the news that Travis’s team will be playing in the Super Bowl this year – leaving many wondering if the popstar would be in attendance at the sporting event.

While some people have argued that Taylor wouldn’t be able to make it since she has a show in Tokyo, Japan, on February 10 – one day before the coveted football game – others have argued that due to the time change she can indeed get to Las Vegas in time for the 3:30pm kickoff.

Tokyo is 17 hours ahead of Las Vegas, and that flight time is about 12 hours – which means that if Taylor left the Asian country soon after her concert ended at 11pm on Saturday, she would land in the US at 7pm on Saturday, with plenty of time to spare.
