Jason Kelce Thinks Travis Already Knows If He’s Playing In 2025
Jason Kelce can relate to Travis Kelce’s current career deliberations.
After the 2023 season, Jason Kelce retired while still playing at an elite level. The former Philadelphia Eagles center is now watching his younger brother consider whether to return after the Kansas City Chiefs lost to Philadelphia in the Super Bowl.
On The Steam Room podcast, Jason Kelce told Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley that he discussed his decision “a lot” with Travis before retiring. He plans to return the favor as the star tight end considers his options.
“I’m sure we will talk about it,” Jason said (h/t Pro Football Talk). “We’ve already talked about it a little bit, and I’m sure he’s going to go through a process of figuring that out.”
However, Jason explained why Travis may have an easier time deciding.
“Sometimes I can way overanalyze situations,” Jason said. “And any big decision I’m having in my life, I think about the negatives … I want to do too much. And my brother has this way of being like, ‘Hey man. You want to play or you don’t want to play.'”
Johnson jokingly asked if Jason would announce Travis’ decision. While he didn’t reveal the final call, the six-time All-Pro wouldn’t be surprised if his brother already made up his mind.
“I’m way overanalyzing his decision for him … I think he probably, in his heart, already knows what he wants to do,” Jason said.
On the other hand, Jason “wrestled” with his decision to retire for three to four years. While he “wasn’t ready to stop” earlier in that deliberation process, he finally realized it was time after completing his 13th season with the Eagles.
Travis probably doesn’t like how his 12th season in Kansas City ended. The Chiefs fell short of the NFL’s first Super Bowl three-peat when losing 40-22 to the Eagles on Feb. 9.
Travis posted a career-low 8.5 yards per catch and 51.4 yards per game during the regular season before settling for 39 yards in the Super Bowl. Yet he delivered 117 yards and a touchdown in Kansas City’s AFC Divisional Round win over the Houston Texans.
On their New Heights podcast recorded after the Super Bowl, Travis told Jason that he’ll take time before deciding his future.
