Jason Kelce’s Telling Admission On Brother Amid Retirement Rumors

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered an embarrassing defeat in Super Bowl 59 earlier this month, and that loss brings on a difficult decision for tight end Travis Kelce.
Kelce is 35 years old and looked to have lost a step in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles. He addressed the possibility of retirement after the game, but did not commit to a decision.
The Chiefs have reportedly given him until around March 14 to make that choice, as he would be due to receive a roster bonus if he’s still on the team after that date.
Travis’ older brother Jason recently spoke on some of his brother’s best qualities, and his tone seemed to indicate some finality when it came to Travis’ career.
“One of the things I love so much about Travis is that he never grew up,” Jason Kelce said on the “Fitz and Whit” podcast.
“He’s like Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. Sometimes you get people in your life that maybe get that out of you and that’s a good thing. … Trav, he is growing up. He’s still, though, got that youthful enthusiasm
I think he’ll kind of always have that, it’s just part of his personality. It’s one of the reasons every teammate has loved playing with him, anybody that’s ever met Trav, you can’t help but just love the guy. He’s a free spirit in the best possible way.”
After the Super Bowl, Travis said that he would “take some time” to come to a decision on whether or not to retire, noting that he felt that he needed to make a intentional decision out of respect for his teammates.
If Kelce does decide to retire, he would be a lock for the Hall of Fame. Kelce is a three-time Super Bowl champion, a seven-time All-Pro, 10-time Pro Bowler and one of the greatest tight ends of all time.
Jason and Travis Kelce won’t be the first pair of brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as that honor will go to Sterling and Shannon Sharpe. They are, however, both likely to be inducted after great careers.
Jason decided to retire after the 2023 season. We’ll see if 2024 was the end for Travis.
