Jason, Travis Kelce address ‘deeply tragic’ Super Bowl parade shooting Jami Ganz
Travis Kelce is addressing the deadly shooting that broke out at the parade celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl win last week.
The Chiefs’ tight-end, 34, and big brother Jason Kelce opened the latest episode of their “New Heights” podcast by acknowledging the incident, which resulted in the death of local radio DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan and injured 22 others, including 11 children.
The three-time Super Bowl champ said the episode was pre-recorded, “But after the tragic events of the Super Bowl parade in Kansas City, it didn’t feel right without you guys hearing from us first.”
“We just wanted to say our hearts go out to all of the victims, their families, Chiefs Kingdom, and really all of Kansas City that was really there on a day to try and celebrate the community,” said Jason, 36. “It’s unfortunate, and deeply tragic the events that occurred.”
The elder Kelce went on to thank “local law enforcement that sprang into action, the first responders on scene, and anybody that’s been willing to help those affected by this tragedy” as well as the city at large for “coming together and rallying around the people that have been affected.”
Travis plugged the emergency fund launched last week by the Chiefs and NFL to offer support to victims and their families. Donations to the fund will also go toward “violence prevention and mental health services, and first responders,” the team said when announcing its inception.
Jason noted that the brothers are “still figuring out a way for us to be involved … but we plan on doing something in the future.”
Travis — whose team won over the San Francisco 49ers last week — and girlfriend Swift have donated $100,000 each toward those affected by the shooting.
The former’s charity, Eighty-Seven & Running, contributed two $50,000 donations to a GoFundMe for sisters Madison Rose Reyes, 10, and Melia Reese Reyes, 8, each of whom sustained gunshot wounds to the legs.
The 34-year-old Grammy-winning billionaire contributed two $50,000 donations to Lopez-Galvan’s family, according to the donors listed on that GoFundMe page.
Two juveniles were detained in connection with the shooting, shooting which is believed to have stemmed from a heated exchange rather than a premeditated plot.
