King Charles III and Queen Camilla have expanded their royal household with the addition of two new puppies, bringing joy to the couple following the recent loss of their beloved Jack Russell, Beth.

This marks the first time in over 20 years that the King has adopted a dog, making the moment particularly significant for the monarch after the 76-year-old was gifted a Lagotto Romagnolo puppy named Snuff four weeks ago

According to royal insiders, he has quickly become enamored with his new four-legged canine friend, who enters the family 23 years after his previous Jack Russell, Tigga, died in 2002.

“Charles is besotted with his puppy,” a source told The Sun. “He hasn’t had one since Tigga. The breed is a truffle-hunter. Charles enjoys mushroom foraging, so they have a lot in common.”

Queen Camilla, meanwhile, recently welcomed a rescue puppy named Moley into their home, continuing her tradition of adopting from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Snuff, a Lagotto Romagnolo, hails from a distinguished line of Italian truffle-hunting dogs. The breed, known for its exceptional scenting abilities, originally served as a water retriever in the marshlands of northern Italy.

However, as these wetlands were drained in the early 20th century, the Lagotto Romagnolo found a new purpose in tracking down the highly prized truffles.

The Kennel Club, which organizes the prestigious Crufts dog show, describes the breed’s name as a combination of “Lagotto,” an Italian term for “curly-coated duck retriever,” and “Romagnolo,” referring to the region of its origin.

Queen Camilla also recently introduced a new furry friend to the royal family, as the King and his wife adopt the old in for a penny, in for a pound adage.

Following the heartbreaking loss of her Jack Russell, Beth, last November, she has adopted an eight-week-old rescue puppy named Moley.

Her Majesty shared the happy news during a visit to the Beaney House of Art & Knowledge in Canterbury while meeting a group of partially-sighted visitors.

I’ve just got a new puppy, he’s eight weeks old,” Camilla said as she stroked a guide dog. “It’s a rescue dog called Moley. It looks just like a mole.”

Camilla has a long-standing connection with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, having adopted her previous dogs, Beth and Bluebell, from the famous London-based shelter in 2011 and 2012 and now the addition of Snuff and Moley brings warmth and companionship to the royal pair.
