Liam Payne was going through a lot more than he “let on” to the public, an insider is now saying… and he reportedly struggled with some not-so-great cyclical behavior through it all.

In the wake of the One Direction alum’s shocking death, the world is still trying to come to grips with and make sense of the sad reality. And a new report may provide some insight. On Wednesday, an insider spoke about Liam’s mental health battle in the final few years of his life, and how he cycled through a bit of self-destructive behavior. They told Page Six:

“Liam had been cycling through periods of ruinous behavior for a long time. He was open about his struggles but tried to downplay them at times. His demons were much worse than he let on.”

So heartbreaking. It’s not clear what went on in his last few moments of life, but witnesses at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel reported that he was acting erratically in the lobby and had to be carried up to his room. Photos purportedly taken later in the room then showed clear signs of distress.

His ex-girlfriend Maya Henry had also revealed just this week that he regularly told her he was “not doing well” and was “gonna die.” So awful.

Since his death, a heartbreaking interview from 2021 has also emerged in which he spoke candidly about his battle with mental health and substance abuse, and his “severe” struggle with suicidal ideation.
