Meghan Markle Returns to Podcasting After $20 Million Spotify Deal Fallout

Meghan Markle is making her return to the podcasting world with a brand-new series, Confessions of a Female Founder, after her high-profile $20 million Spotify deal ended prematurely. The Duchess of Sussex announced the launch of her new show in collaboration with Lemonada Media, marking her comeback to the audio space after her previous podcast, Archetypes, was discontinued.

A Fresh Start in Podcasting

Set to debut on April 8, 2025, Confessions of a Female Founder will explore the journeys of successful female entrepreneurs, providing an intimate look at the challenges and triumphs of building a business. In a statement about the new project, Meghan expressed her passion for telling these stories:

*
“I’ve been having candid conversations with amazing women who have turned dreams into realities and scaled small ideas into massively successful businesses. These conversations have been eye-opening, inspiring…and fun, and I can’t wait to share them with the world.”

The podcast aims to offer valuable insights and inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly women navigating the business world.

Meghan’s return to podcasting comes after her lucrative deal with Spotify fell apart in 2023. Her original show, Archetype, which focused on breaking down stereotypes about women, lasted just one season before the deal was terminated. Reports suggested that Spotify was unhappy with the show’s production output, with only 12 episodes released despite the multimillion-dollar agreement.

After the fallout, Spotify executive Bill Simmons publicly criticized Meghan and Prince Harry, calling them “grifters,” adding fuel to the controversy surrounding the deal’s abrupt end. While *Archetypes* was well-received by listeners and even won a People’s Choice Award, it wasn’t enough to sustain the long-term partnership.

A New Approach with Lemonada Media

Unlike her previous deal with Spotify, Meghan’s new podcast is backed by Lemonada Media, a company known for its focus on socially relevant content. The partnership suggests a more flexible and content-driven approach, allowing Meghan to craft meaningful conversations without the constraints of a major streaming giant.

This new venture also aligns with Meghan’s other projects, including the renewal of her Netflix show with Love, Meghan and the upcoming launch of her lifestyle brand, As Ever. By diversifying her media presence, she is reinforcing her role as a storyteller and entrepreneur.

With confessions of a Female Founder, Meghan Markle is stepping back into the podcasting world with a renewed focus. While her Spotify deal may not have gone as planned, this fresh start with Lemonada Media offers an opportunity for her to shape her own narrative and engage listeners in a new way.

The first trailer for the podcast is set to drop on March 25, with the full series launching in April on all major streaming platforms. Fans and critics alike will be watching to see if Meghan’s return to podcasting can deliver on its promise and avoid the pitfalls of her previous deal.
