Prince William and Harry could be set for unplanned royal reunion in New York very soon
Feuding siblings Prince William and Prince Harry could be set to inadvertently cross paths in New York next month, as the Earthshot Summit coincides with visit.
After a tense few years between feuding brothers Prince Harry and Prince William, a small glimmer of hope for a reunion could be on the horizon as royal fans around the globe cross their fingers for their paths to cross in New York City next month.
Prince Harry, 39, announced on Tuesday that he would be heading to the Big Apple in September, during UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week, the latter of which runs from September 22 until September 29.
The aim of the trip is to “advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives,” while also championing causes near and dear to his charity Archewell, which he launched with his wife the Duchess of Sussex in 2020.
During Harry’s New York stay he will “participate in engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst,” a spokesperson for the Duke said.
“In addition, he will be furthering the work of The Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit organizstion he co-founded with his wife Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex.”
Interestingly however, the trip will also coincide with another huge event for his older brother Prince William, 42, as his Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit is also scheduled to take place on September 24, The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.
William launched the contest back in 2020 with the key goal of hoping to inspire impactful and sustainable responses to some of the most critical environmental issues affecting the planet, including matters such as conservation, tackling deforestation and addressing climate change.
As part of the annual contest, the Prince plans to award £1 million Earthshot Prizes in five categories annually until 2030.
Although the Prince’s attendance has yet to be confirmed, he did famously attend in person last year, with many royal watchers hoping that this year he does the same and champions the cause that is so very important to him.
Yet whether he will run into his brother, should he choose to attend remains to be seen, as a source told The Sunday Times earlier this month that it had been “two years” since they last spoke to each other at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral back in September 2022.
Describing the estrangement as “dreadfully sad” one insider highlighted how Prince William had been juggling many concerns more pressing than his brother this year, following the cancer diagnoses of both his father King Charles and wife Princess Kate.
“This year his focus has very much been on his wife, his children and his father. His brother isn’t really something that’s discussed,” they said.
However, despite the distance between the pair, this hasn’t stopped Prince Harry from speaking openly about his desire to reconnect with his family in the past – something which could potentially offer a glimmer of hope should their paths cross in New York.
“I love William to bits, he’s my brother, we’ve been through hell together… but we’re on different paths,” Harry previously told Oprah Winfrey.
“The relationship is space at the moment. Time heals all things – hopefully.”
