Royal family live updates: Prince William, Kate Middleton visit their namesake country

After arriving in Cardiff, Wales on Wednesday, the royal couple made their way to The Welsh Cake Shop in Pontypridd where they not only learned more about Welsh cakes, but were taught how to make them by shop owner Theresa Conner.
“Apparently, Kate is a very keen baker with [her children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6], and she is going to try her hand and make some with us,” Connor told PEOPLE ahead of Will and Kate’s arrival
The Prince and Princess of Wales kneaded the dough and rolled it out before cutting it into small cakes.
Connor showed the royal couple how to cook the tasty pastries on a cast iron stovetop.
“You’ll have to sell these for half price,” the future king joked.
Prince William and Kate made Pontypridd a key focus during their Wales trip because the town was severely damaged by Storm Bert and Storm Darraugh in November and December of last year.
It’s lovely and an honor for Pontypridd to have a visit. They are coming to visit Pontypridd where a lot of people have been affected here by the floods,” Conner said. “And for them to do so will help boost people in the town and raise our profile. A lot of our customers are very excited about it and are here trying to get a glimpse of them.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales have arrived in their namesake country.
Prince William, 42, and Kate Middleton, 43, are in Wales on Wednesday ahead of St. David’s Day, the national holiday that’s celebrated on March 1.
The royal couple commemorated the day by visiting Pontypridd, a town in South Wales that was severely damaged by Storms Bert and Darragh in November and December.
Many homes and businesses were flooded due to the storms, and the town experienced widespread power outages, according to local reports.
One local bookstore had about $25,000 worth of books damaged, the BBC reported.
The royal couple made a stop at The Meadow Street Community Garden and Woodland, an open space for community gardening, woodworking and weaving.
The garden was badly hit by the storms in December, with debris and flooding in its aftermath.
The pair posted a video to their Instagram Story of themselves walking on a platform after arriving in the country by train .
Princess Kate wore a red coat, symbolizing one of the colors on the Welsh flag.
The prince and princess both wore a yellow flower.
