Eurovision star David Whelan and Salome Chachua stole an early march into the lead on Dancing with the Stars last night ahead of next week’s first elimination.

The Wild Youth frontman and his partner closed out the show with a stomping Charleston to Bad Boy Good Man by Tape Five despite David’s injured shoulder. And it met with unanimous approval from the judges, who gave them the highest score of the evening, 24.

Brian said: “Technically the swivels were absolutely fantastic. The energy was really, really high right throughout. Great trust for all that. A little bit disappointed with the lifts…What I would say to you is based on the performances that you’ve shown over the last two weeks, get used to lifting stuff because you could be lifting that Glitterball.”

Loraine said: “This was a challenge for you but it’s one that you passed!”

The show had started with former Miss World Rosanna Davison and her pro partner Stephen Vincent, with a salsa number danced to Hips Don’t Lie by Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean. The classy, sassy routine was a favourite of the judges, who had criticised Rosanna for stiffness the previous week.

Arthur Gouroulian said: “The way you’re moving like a different movement from last week completely, it was like a snake zigzagging through the Amazon.”
