In a whirlwind week of surprises, singer and actress Selena Gomez has announced her engagement to longtime friend and music producer Benny Blanco—and the couple has even more exciting news to share.
After a year of dating and recently opening up about her health challenges and her inability to carry a pregnancy, Gomez, 32, shocked fans with a heartfelt Instagram post revealing that she and Blanco, 36, are expecting their first child via surrogate.
“Life has a way of surprising you when you least expect it,” Gomez wrote, alongside a black-and-white photo of the couple holding hands with a baby onesie placed between them. “I never thought this kind of joy would find me the way it did. Benny, you are my heart. And yes… we’re having a baby.”
The engagement announcement came just days after Selena appeared on the “On Purpose” podcast with Jay Shetty, where she spoke candidly about her journey with lupus and bipolar disorder, both of which have impacted her fertility.
“It’s been hard knowing I might never carry a child,” she shared. “But I’ve come to understand that there are many beautiful ways to become a mother.”
Friends and fans alike are celebrating the couple’s big moment. Taylor Swift reportedly sent a bouquet “the size of a piano,” according to a source close to the couple, and fellow celebs like Demi Lovato and Camila Cabello chimed in with congratulatory messages on social media.
Blanco, who has worked with Gomez on multiple musical projects, including her 2020 hit “Rare,” responded in a post of his own, saying:
“She said yes — to forever, to a family, to building a future. I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
No word yet on a wedding date, but sources say the couple plans to keep things “low-key and intimate.” As for the baby, Gomez hinted in her post that they are expecting a girl, signing off with:
