When it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs, Taylor Swift simply can’t win. Turn up and support her boyfriend Travis Kelce and the attention switches to her actions in the crowd. Dodge the game and people begin to wonder if she truly supports the tight end.
Her popularity appears to have plummeted even further after comedian Jo Koy, who hosted the 2024 Golden Globes awards ceremony, made a joke about Swift that fell completely flat.
Koy quipped, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift. I swear.”

The camera panned to Swift and she did not see the funny side of it, glaring at the comedian as she took a sip from her drink. Koy immediately backtracked, muttering “sorry” underneath his breath. But the damage was done, and it quickly became the headline of the ceremony.
However, instead of supporting their newest and most high-profile fan, Chiefs fans appear to be backing Koy rather than Swift in the debate over the controversial joke.
One fan attending the match at Arrowhead brought along a sign that read: “It’s colder than Taylor’s reaction to Jo Koy.”
Another user on X wrote: “The last time Taylor Swift looked this cold, she was staring down Jo Koy.”
And PBA Insider, a basketball-based account with over 40,000 followers, said: “Jo Koy is absolutely right: the @NFL has more Taylor Swift cut-aways than the @goldenglobes.”
Other fans took the side of Koy every time the camera switched focus to Swift instead of the game, although the 34-year-old is hardly to blame when the TV director points the lense in her direction.
How has Jo Koy reacted to Taylor Swift joke backlash?
Koy has reiterated that he did not mean to offend Swift in any way with his joke and claimed he even bought tickets for his nieces to watch her on the Eras Tour.
“I didn’t understand the Taylor [Swift] tiff,” Koy said. “What hurts the most is me just supporting Taylor, I support her, I love her work.
“I got nieces that I bought tickets for. There’s no ill intent in that joke.”
Still, that attempt at making peace has not appeased Swifties, who are now calling out Koy for trying to play the victim when the comedian has no proof that Swift’s reaction caused the backlash. But remarkably, it seems the Chiefs fans are yet to forgive her.
