Travis Kelce explains why he’ll wear short sleeves despite freezing cold weather for Chiefs-Dolphins playoff game
Kansas’ AFC Wild Card matchup against Miami is set to go down as one of the coldest games in NFL history, but you still won’t catch Travis Kelce wearing long sleeves.
The Chiefs are urging fans to layer up for game day at Arrowhead Stadium in what meteorologists are predicting will be brutally cold conditions Saturday night.
Wind chill at Arrowhead Stadium mean temperatures feel like they’re between -20 and -30 degrees on Saturday night

The air temperature at kickoff is forecast to be below zero with a wind chill of -22 degrees.
“There will be a significant risk of frostbite for spectators who are not bundled up correctly. It takes about 30 minutes for frostbite to occur in wind chills near what’s forecast,” said a CNN meteorologist.
Despite warning of ‘dangerously cold’ weather and the threat of frostbite, Kelce is set to forgo any extra layers when he suits up for tonight’s playoff matchup.
During a recent episode of their chart-topping ‘New Heights’ podcast, Travis and his brother Jason were asked why players don’t wear sleeves or cover their arms during cold weather.
“The new tight-skin long sleeves can be a lot slicker when you tuck the ball away, at least that’s why I don’t like to wear them,” he told Jason.
“I just feel a lot more secure when it’s my skin on the rock, doesn’t feel as slick.
“At the same time, I know a lot of guys that don’t run into that problem, and I think a lot of the old school regular cotton, long john tops, the ball doesn’t really slide.”
Former Kansas wide receiver Tyreek Hill will face-off against his former teammates on Saturday in his first return to Arrowhead since his blockbuster trade to Miami in 2022.
On Friday Hill told reporters he would join Kelce in going sleeveless for the game for fear of appearing “soft”.
He said: “I played there and I understand the conditions. I’m not even bothered about it at all.
“So, I’m going to go out there with no sleeves and tell the rest of the guys, ”Hey, look man, it’s a mindset. Those guys see you wearing sleeves, obviously they gonna think you soft.”’
Meanwhile Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is planning on wearing gloves as he prepares to brace the sub-zero temperatures.
Other players will wear wet suits and Vaseline beneath their uniforms to protect against their frigid weather conditions.
