Jason Kelce’s tendency to wear flip flops wherever he goes has become iconic over the years, and now the Philadelphia Eagles legend has explained the method behind the madness.

Kelce, who is still weighing up whether to continue his NFL career at the age of 36, is regularly seen sporting a pair of sandals when he’s out and about – no matter how cold the weather is.

As recently as last month, the NFL veteran was seen sporting them in snowy New York conditions ahead of the Eagles’ game against the Giants.

And on the latest episode of their New Heights podcast, Kelce opened up on his love for flip flops in a conversation with his brother Travis.

When Travis brought up his signature footwear choice, Jason said: ‘I don’t even know why it’s a story at this point. It has just become a thing now.’

‘I broke one pair,’ Jason replied. ‘These are really quality sandals, so they lasted for a long time. These ones right here are probably two years old. But I had the initial pair before that for easily… they had some miles on them.

‘[I went out and got] the exact same pair, same company. I really like OluKai, Hawaiian company. They make sandals in particular and also other footwear, but they still offer the arch support in them, so it’s not just a piece of flat foam.’

As his older brother went into further detail, Travis couldn’t contain his laughter.

‘It feels good and I think they kind of look nice,’ Jason continued before saying: ‘Why are you laughing at that?’

‘I just didn’t think you cared about looking nice, that’s all,’ Travis admitted.

‘If it’s functional and high quality and it looks good, I’m all for it,’ the Eagles center responded.

Jason is soaking up the atmosphere in Las Vegas this week as Travis gears up for Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII, where his Chiefs will collide with the San Francisco 49ers.

He is expected to be sat alongside Travis’ girlfriend Taylor Swift at Allegiant Stadium, which will cap a busy week or so after he was also in Orlando for the NFL’s Pro Bowl games, where he took time out from football to visit Disneyworld with his young family.

But Jason is also making the most of his down time in Vegas, hitting the casino floor for a spot of gambling.

He was filmed playing alongside some members of Barstool Sports and comedians Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura.

It looked as though Kelce brought his Super Bowl ring – won with the Eagles in 2018 – down to the casino floor and shared it around the group.

After leaving the casino floor, Kelce then went to watch U2 play on Wednesday night.
