Travis Kelce has started the month of May with a bang. He has been confirmed as the NFL’s highest-paid tight end thanks to a two-year contract extension he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, and his celebrity has grown to the point where has attended both the 150th Kentucky Derby and the third Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.
It was in Miami — where Kelce’s Chiefs eliminated the Dolphins in last season’s playoffs — where the future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee’s world collided with that of a soccer icon and one of the sport’s legends, who also wanted to take in the heart-stopping action in Miami Gardens.
It is not known what — if anything — Kelce and Zidane discussed during their brief meeting, but the two can certainly bond of their shared successes that took them to the summit of their respective sports. Zidane was a star player for Juventus, Real Madrid, and the France national team — with whom he won the FIFA World Cup in 1998. As a manager, Zidane led Madrid to its famous “three-peat” of UEFA Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018.
Kelce and Kansas City are aiming for a “three-peat” of their own in 2024, as the Chiefs seek to become the first NFL team ever to win the Super Bowl in three consecutive seasons. Kelce, a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and a four-time first-team All-Pro, appeared calm and relaxed in Miami amidst the craziness of recent weeks, which also included a trip to Las Vegas with girlfriend Taylor Swift for a charity gala hosted by Patrick Mahomes.
