Chiefs’ fans put the new dance celebration on full display following the end of their 26-7 domination over the Dolphins.

As the Chiefs’ game-day staff started playing the song “Swag Surfin” by the Fast Life Yungstaz (also known as F.L.Y.), the entire stadium broke out into one of the biggest dance parties in the NFL. Popular pop star Taylor Swift’s presence and her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, also joined the rest of the crowd at the Arrowhead stadium.

“Swag Surfin” is a song that the Fast Life Yungstaz (or F.L.Y.) released as part of their debut album “Jamboree” back in 2009. Following its release, the song became a hit and even peaked at No. 62 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Over the years, the song has experienced a cultural renaissance, with various sports teams adopting it as an anthem. Aside from the Chiefs, several other NFL teams have used it in the past, including the Bears, the Saints, and more.

‘Swag Surfin’ as a Chiefs celebration
Kansas City initially started using the song as part of their celebration following a message from linebacker Willie Gay. Gay shared the message with a cameraperson on the sidelines during the team’s 25-17 win over the Bengals back in Week 17. He stated:

Pass the word up and tell them to play Swag Surfin, we really need that.”

Following the comment, the public address system at the stadium soon started blaring “Swag Surfin” from the speakers. This resulted in a massive dance party on the sidelines, which Gay led, alongside Travis Kelce and defensive end Charles Omenihu. Kelce shared about the celebration on the “New Heights” podcast saying:

It’s a classic man. I really want to say since I’ve been here, it’s been a huge fourth quarter, big-time moment, big-time like drive in the game for our defense, they play a highlight video that has fSwag surf’ on it as a song and it gets everybody hyped.”

How to swag surf
“Swag Surfin” is quite simple and the dance consists of a participant lunging alternatively to the right and left to the beat of the song. The lunging is done in both a smooth and vigorous fashion. Moreover, the person dancing can also have their arms around the other participants dancing depending on the version of the dance. Participants can also choose to use their arms to compliment the swaying motion of their lower body. When a large group of the audience performs the dance, it creates a wave-like motion within the crowd.
