Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce has a specific request for Clark Hunt regarding a future game location

Travis Kelce knows a thing or two about travel. Of course, all NFL players – and professional athletes, for that matter – know about the lifestyle of spending a good part of their lives on planes seeing new places.

However, Kelce has seen more than the majority of those athletes likely have, at least as part of his career. The Chiefs’ star tight end has played in London, Mexico City, and added Frankfurt to the list this year.

However, there’s a new place that he’s interested in seeing the Chiefs play: Spain. Kelce let it be known during Super Bowl LVIII week that he’d love the chance to play in front of international fans again, particularly those in Spain.

The Chiefs’ International Home Marketing Areas designated by the league include Germany, Mexico, Austria, and Switzerland, the latter two of which were added in 2023. Spain is not among them, but that still doesn’t mean the Chiefs might not end up there one day.

As far as where a game would be played in Spain if the Chiefs – or any team for that matter – where to play there, there are several potential options given the existence of the La Liga soccer league and the impressive stadiums that come with it. Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium holds over 80,000 fans. Camp Nou in Barcelona can seat more almost 100,000. There are various other stadiums capable of hosting, but one has to think that either Madrid or Barcelona will get the nod, with the former sounding like the most likely.

As far as timing, the NFL will likely have a game there very soon. The league mentioned earlier this season that Brazil and Spain were likely next in line. With the recent announcement that Sao Paulo, Brazil will host a game on September 6, 2024, that makes it a substantial possibility that Spain could be the next country added to the NFL’s list of international host sites in 2025.

The question is whether the NFL will grant Kelce’s wish so that he can try the roast suckling pig at one of the world’s oldest restaurants in Sobrino del Botin in Madrid, or check out the markets along the famous La Rambla in Barcelona.
