Things are heating up in the NFL celebrity couple stakes after Travis Kelce poked fun at Jonathan Owens’ omission from being nominated for an award.

The Kansas City Chiefs player has been nominated for the 2024 People’s Choice Awards in the Athlete of the Year category, something the 34-year-old was not expecting at all.

In a conversation with his brother Jason, 36, who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles, the siblings discussed why Green Bay Packers star Owens wasn’t included when his wife, U.S gymnast Simone Biles, was among those nominated.

“How is Simone Biles on this but her boyfriend [sic] isn’t?” Jason asked, speaking on their ‘New Heights’ podcast.

Responding to the question posed by his brother, Travis laughed and said: “How am I on this?” before sarcastically asking: “Owens? [He] played some good ball over there, I guess.”

The two-time Super Bowl champion argued he shouldn’t be on the list of nominees for his appearance on comedy show Saturday Night Live, having been apparently unaware that his ties with girlfriend Taylor Swift, also 34, has significantly raised his celebrity profile.

But his thinly-veiled dig at the 28-year-old safety should not go unnoticed, particularly as Owens had declared he was the ‘catch’ in his relationship with Biles.

“I always say that the men are the catch,” Owens said during a recent appearance on the ‘Pivot’ podcast.

He met the seven-time Olympic medalist on celebrity dating app Raya and attracted criticism last year when he claimed he did not know who she was prior to matching with Biles. The pair got married at a courthouse in April 2023 before celebrating with plush nuptials in Mexico later on.

But given that he has been left out of the People’s Choice Awards list, and Biles is included for her sporting exploits, some might argue differently about which one of the couple is better known and also the ‘catch’.
